    THE BOTTOM OF THE WORLD

    23/11/2009

Since it always happens: everything comes!

Tomorrow (Tuesday) I take the plane to initiate one of the expeditions that Mhat I was specially looking forward when I decided to go for the project of the ” 7 Summits “. I go to the “Bottom of the World”… to the Antarctica; without doubts, one of the most remote, exotic and inaccessible places of the world.

Here, it will be nearly more important the trip than climbing the mountain itself.  It is sure that we could find more interesting summits from the technical point of view, more near from home and practically without any logistic complication. But this one is one of the aspects which fills me more from  the “7 Summits” project: That gives me the opportunity to know places of our planet where I would rarely intend to go if it was not forming a part of a global challenge.

Maybe without getting involved in the 7 Summits issue, I would have gone some day to the Aconcagua, to the Mc.Kinley or to the Kilimanjaro. Even it’s possible that I would have considered to climb Everest. But it is sure that I would rarely have had the project to enter the Papua’s jungle, or of doing a great ski trekking in the Russian Caucasus, or of throwing in the middle of the Antarctica like in this occasion.

The project of climbing the highest mountains from each continent forces me to live very quickly at different levels, and supporting frequent intense stressing periods; but we all know that “If you want really something, you have to go hard for it”.  I am happy to pay the price of being nervous, in hurry, stressed, and very often tired for managing the pressure of such a challenge, if I can get the price of enjoying such a unique experiences.   Sometimes I think that I exceeded myself deciding to go for the “7 Summits”; but a lot more of times I think that I should had invented a project fo “30 Summits” in order to be able to stay a long time more travelling around the world doing small adventures.

From next Wednesday I will explain in this Blog the expedition evolution as often as it will be possible to me (I will try to make it daily, but I have the added difficulty to make the English translation)….  Next message, from Punta Arenas (Chile).
